The city of Dnepropetrovsk, third largest city of Ukraine, is situated on the Dnieper River in East Central Ukraine (see the World map and  map of Ukraine ), and has a population of over 1.1 million. Large and beautiful, it is the main city of  Ukraine.East Central The old fortress settlement has existed since the middle of the 16th century. The new town was founded in 1776 by the Russian Prince Potemkin by order of Catherine II, the Great, Empress of Russia, and was called Ekaterinoslav from 1776 to 1926. During 1918, the town’s name was Sicheslav (The Glory for Sich’/Fortress of Cossacks).  
 
Dnepropetrovsk has been the major center of the steel industry from the beginning of the 20th century until the present. It has also dominated in the space rocket building industry since the 1950s.
Today, Dnepropetrovsk is the major trade, finance and industrial center of Eastern and Central Ukraine. There are 11 universities, academies and institutes in Dnepropetrovsk. See the brief city 
guide. Construction of the Metro (subway) was completed in late 1995. An International Airport offers direct flights to and from Vienna (Austria),
Frankfurt-on-Maine (Germany), Istanbul (Turkey), Tel Aviv (Israel), Moscow (Russia), Kiev (Ukraine), Odessa (Ukraine), Simferopol (Ukraine), etc.

Pridneprovie Cleaner Production Center is operating from Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine), where positions of environmental organizations are particularly strong.

In Dnepropetrovsk Region of Ukraine, there are over 50 educational and research establishments involved into the environmental activities. Pridneprovie Cleaner Production Center (Dnepropetrovsk) is the only cleaner production center in Ukraine. It has developed a basic infrastructure for the establishment of a national cleaner production center through a long-term working relationship with such Ukrainian organizations as Department of Environmental and Chemical Equipment at the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology, Ukrainian Metallurgical Academy, Pridneprovie Ecological Foundation, Pridneprovie Branches of the Ukrainian Ecological Academy and International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems.

Our capabilities are based on:

PCPC works in the Dnieper and Donets Basin area that accounts for about 2/3 of Ukraine's heavy industries and environmental pollution.

PCPC has developed a number of programs to abate pollution and encourage cleaner production that may be profitable for potential investors. PCPC has a region-wide network of researchers and industrialists that can be used to promote U.S. investment, transfer of U.S. technologies and their adaptation to local conditions.
